Our New Front Cover

We changed the front cover of our soap magazine, this was due to audience feedback. On our front cover Lucy edited the pictures, Ellie did the text and font. I did everything else, I based it all on audience feedback. The original magazine blended together due to the colours. We had to adjust the cover stars contrast as she appeared to pale.

The background is now red as this stands out more to the audience. We seperated "The Grove" and "Freshers" so people understand that it is two seperate programmes, where as before they thought it was the same programme just different parts of it.

We used photoshop for alot of the main coverstar pictures this featured cropping/cutting the background out of the photo, using a healer tool to remove spots and cuts. Also to make the coverstars stand out more we increased the contrast of Ellie/her character Kate's photo.

Our inspiration for our front cover is the "What's on" tv guide, which is a mainstream tv guide and research has shown that it is one of the best top selling tv guide.

Coronation Street Trailer

Our E4 Branding

This is the E4 branding we used on our Billboard.

Final Billboard

The billboard was created by Phil, Liam and Haseeb. This is our final draft of our billboard, this features the whole cast and our branding. The main character is stood in the center and builds out in order of importance to the soap, however the due to complications with the pictures Sasha came before Kate and it should have been the other way around.

Bamford Pictures

We wanted to make sure we got a variety of shots of Ellie/her character Kate as she is one of the main character of our soap trailer and our cover star of our magazine too.

We felt that in Sam/her characters pictures that was very important to try and capture the attitude of her character. However we could have taken more close ups of her character.

I, Corina/my charcter Bree, was not chosen to be the cover star of our Soap magazine, so we did not tae that many photos, however we could have taken more variety of photos.

Lucy/Dylan was not a main character in the soap, this made it even more important to capture her character, the shy, caring one. We could have also taken more close ups of her rather than long shots.

Bamford Pictures

We took the most pictures of Phil/his character Rav, here we use a range of full body shot to mid-close up from his waste upwards. Also we tried different facial expressions and having his hood up and down to try and create different meanings.

These are pictures of Haseeb/his character Johnny. Here is a small selction of photos we took of him, long shots and mid-shots. We felt that the mid-shots worked best to show facial expression and and the type of character he is.

We wanted to use Liam/his character Mason for our front cover of our magazine, so we felt that a wide range of photos would be important to create meanings. Some pictures were taken in the mind for it being positioned with Ellie/her character Kate and the others in mind for the billboard.

Facebook Social Networking

This is our basic plan of our billboard, done by Phil, Haseeb and Liam.

Twitter Social Network

This is a rough draft of our group billboard. Phil, Haseeb and Liam prepared this by using photoshop to cut out the characters and importing them onto a green screen.

Little Lion Man Lyrics

The bits highlighted in Blue are key phrases I found in the song and the bits in red are the parts of the song that was not used.

Media Social Networking

This was a facebook page created by a member of our group this enabled us to share our trailers with our audience.

First Draft Of Love Soap Magazine

Sammi, Lucy, Ellie and I have worked on this magazine front cover as a group: Lucy worked editing the pictures in Photoshop, Ellie focused on background and colours, Sammi worked on the main layout and editing and worked on text and branding. We chose to base our magazine on TV Quick magazine, however due to the company closure there are no recent magazine front covers.
Our audience is 15-25 year old females; this is because our soap opera features mostly teenagers and their lives. Also the magazine content is aimed at teenagers, spoofs such as “Reem” is advertised which interest boys may create a sub audience. We are also aware that older women like to watch soaps also, so the title may interest them “Vows and Rows”. We chose the “Vows and Rows” as our main feature as it’s from our soap opera, also its one of the main stories featuring in the trailers.
We preferred to make a "trashy" less formal magazine because it fitted better with our soap and audience; the colours are bright and orientated to our audience, for example pink and purple masthead fits perfectly to girls and mainly teens, this will help it to catch the potential readers' eyes when browsing a magazine stand or in passing while shopping. We chose soft feminine colours such as: pink, purple, white and blue because these are the main colours associated with women, research showed us that soap operas are aimed at middle/ working class women who want to forget about their lives through watching others'. Also they are on when the “little ones” have gone to bed.
The content of the magazine is mostly aimed at teenage/ young adult issues. We have used same font the on all of the front cover of our magazine however I think we could have used to create a variation and to make it more appealing, the font was Berlin Sans FB. We one of the reasons chose to use that same font were to create brand identity, so the readers will recognise and associate it with our magazine. We choose that particular font because it was rounded which gives it a young feel, whereas using Times New Roman is more formal and older.

Audience Feedback

It’s v good but needs a couple of changes.
Make barcode smaller and needs to be in bottom right corner, it’s never in the centre of the page. That’s prime space for text.

Change the Berlin font, it doesn’t look like anything used in existing texts. You need something simpler, but also sans serif. Maybe use the same font you used for “vows and rows” but play around with size, boldness, colour?

And needs one really bright accent colour to make unique selling points stand out
